Flipping through the calendar, I like to find dates related to what we do at dpeg Marketing. This week, I stumbled upon May 16th, Horse Rescue Day.
Horse Rescue Day is a special occasion dedicated to raising awareness and supporting the rehabilitation of rescued horses. Whether you’re a seasoned equestrian, a devoted animal lover, or a kind-hearted soul looking to contribute, this day provides an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these incredible equines.
Part of the reason we got into websites for farms was to work with horses. One equine client, horseOlogy, launched horseOlogy Encore, a non-profit that helps find homes and potentially second careers for retired thoroughbreds.
Here are five heartfelt ways to celebrate Horse Rescue Day this year and help bring extra love to rescued, retired, or retrained horses.
1. Visit a Local Horse Rescue
Spend the day at a nearby horse rescue center. Many centers offer tours or volunteer opportunities to learn more about the horses and the rescue process. It’s a hands-on way to connect with the cause. Not only will your visit brighten your day, but it will also bring joy to the horses who love human interaction.
There are a few in my area near Asheville, but Hope for Horses is the first that comes to mind.
2. Fundraise Creatively
Host a fun event like a barn dance, a bake sale featuring horse-themed treats, or even a virtual auction with equine artwork and crafts. Use social media to promote your event and engage your community in fundraising efforts. The proceeds can go directly to a horse rescue organization. Remember, every little bit helps, and combining fun with fundraising.
3. Adopt or Sponsor a Horse
If you have the means and space, consider adopting a rescued horse. Sponsoring a horse is a fantastic alternative for those not ready to take the full plunge. Monthly sponsorships help cover the cost of feed, veterinary care, and maintenance, ensuring the rescue can continue providing excellent care.

4. Educate and Advocate
Use Horse Rescue Day to spread awareness about the plight of rescued horses. Share information on your social media platforms about how others can help. Write blog posts, create engaging videos, or even host a podcast episode discussing the importance of horse rescue organizations. Education is a powerful tool in the fight for these animals’ well-being.
5. DIY Fundraising Crafts
Get crafty for a cause! Organize a crafting session where you and your friends create horse-themed goods like beaded halters, painted horseshoes, or braided mane and tail decorations. Sell your creations online or at local markets and donate the proceeds to your favorite rescue.
Remember, Horse Rescue Day isn’t just about a single day of the year; it’s a chance to make an ongoing impact. Whether through a one-time visit or a lasting commitment, your efforts contribute to a brighter future for horses in need. So saddle up, spread the word, and let’s make Horse Rescue Day a time to remember.
