We’ve been working on a few new projects lately; one thing that comes up repeatedly is using an FAQ page. If you don’t know, FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions, and it’s common for businesses and organizations to have short lists on their website that users can find and quickly check out when they have questions. The concept was popularized in the early days of the Internet when answering the same questions for every user became overwhelming. A static page became much more manageable.
FAQ pages are still crucial for several reasons. Here’s why.
Great Opportunity for SEO
There is no better resource on your website for creating Search Engine Optimization than your FAQ page. Why? Because these are the questions that people actually Google. For example, the current standard from SEO seems to be short phrases or single terms, but people don’t just type in farm; they type in “farm near me.” Your FAQ can address some of those more challenging SEO phrases.
Here’s a fun site. Check out Answer the Public, a tool by international SEO firm NP Digital. You type in a term, and it provides a visual chart of the who, what, where, when, why, and how phrases that people type into Google or ask Siri. I typed in Equine because it’s relevant to our interests. The results included:
- Who is an equine veterinarian?
- How much is equine massage?
- Why does equine therapy work?
- Equine centers near me
You get the idea. And while “Equine centers near me” is a copywriter’s nightmare, it is super easy to slip into an FAQ on your website.
Becoming a Resource
FAQs also make you a resource for potential visitors. As people Google these complete sentences to find more information on your subject, if you have a FAQ with more of these exact phrases, you’ll get more traffic. That builds confidence in your brand and encourages more people to come to you with questions. When someone lands on your FAQ page, they find some of what they’re looking for, but if they perceive you as a subject matter expert, they are more likely to reach out with additional questions rather than search elsewhere.
Converting More Customers
More contacts can translate to more customers. Your goal as a business owner is to convert website visits, click-throughs, and all the other ways someone interacts with your brand into business. That’s just the natural cycle of things. The more time people spend on your website, the more likely they will reach out and become customers. An FAQ page and your blog can help facilitate these connections.
An FAQ is one piece of the puzzle that informs user experience. For example, 74% of smartphone voice search users will request local business information at least once a week. When the SEO is optimized on long-tail keywords, that could mean they land on your page first and become customers.
Tips and Tricks for Creating an FAQ
So, now that you know you need an FAQ, how do you begin? Trying to think of ten to twenty questions that someone might ask can feel intimidating. You can start with the Answer the Public to get started. Another tool that’s very useful for FAQs is ChatGPT. While I have advised against using it for content creation for obvious reasons, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel for your FAQ. ChatGPT is a free tool, so you don’t have to stress over the additional cost. Simply ask what the frequently asked questions about your topic are. For example:
- Why do equine businesses need a website?
- What features should an equine business website have?
- Should I hire a professional web designer or build my website myself?
- How do I create compelling content for my equine business website?
- How can I optimize my equine business website for search engines?
And after all the new research I’ve done on FAQs for clients lately, dpeg Marketing will update our FAQ page soon.
